Compost & Recycling

The City of Berne maintains a compost site at our Wastewater Treatment Plant northeast of Berne on Rd 550S. (¼ mile E of 000) Follow the signs at the site.

Compost Hours

April 2- December 1st 2018

  • Monday-Wednesday-Friday-Saturday 7 am-3 pm.
  • Tuesday and Thursday 7 am-6 pm
  • Closed Sunday

Compost material is free for Berne residents’ personal landscaping needs. You may shovel load available material anytime the compost site is open or if you need a “truck” load, a City of Berne employee can assist you with loading Tuesday and Thursday from 4-6 pm and Saturday 7am-3pm from April-November. No personal loading equipment is allowed.

December 2nd -March 31st 2018

Every Thursday from April 5th-Sept. 27th.   Place grass in proper open container.

At this time, the City of Berne does not offer curbside recycling. However, there are a number of options available for those wishing to do so.

Use the lane on the north side and follow directions. Open on Mondays from 9 AM-5 PM
(The center is closed any Monday that is a legal holiday, but will be open on Tuesday of that week)

Citizens of Berne are encouraged to recycle cans, plastics, newspapers and cardboard by using the recycle location. If you have any questions about using this service, please call the Adams County transfer station:
