Initial Notice of CSO Discharges

The City of Berne operates a Combined Sewer System (CSS), a wastewater collection system which conveys sanitary wastewaters (domestic, commercial, and industrial wastewaters) and storm water through a single pipe system to the Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTW). A Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) is the discharge from a CSS at a point prior to the POTW. The City is required to notify the public within four (4) hours of the City becoming aware of a CSO event. This notification serves to alert you of a recent CSO event.
